A Proud Tradition Since 1993

While HTAC’s primary focus is the delivery of quality education to Afghan girls and boys, we have never forgotten the critical, on-going need to provide humanitarian aid and emergency relief to children and their families. Our tradition of providing this assistance goes all the way back to 1993 when our Executive Director and founder, Suraya Sadeed visited the refugee camps during the height of the Afghan civil war and discovered the deplorable living conditions of Afghan children and their families.
Since then, HTAC has provided critical aid to over 1.5 million Afghans in the form of: medicinal aid, blankets, shoes, apparel, cooking, heating, and school supplies. Working with the local Afghan ministries and long-time partners such as Afghan Health & Development Services, AmeriCares, and the Mennonite Central Committee, HTAC has long sought to serve the most vulnerable populations and assist them in alleviating their often desperate conditions.
Particularly with under-served sectors of society, HTAC focuses on internally displaced peoples and repatriated refugees who live around Kabul and throughout Afghanistan in tents, makeshift shelters and bombed-out buildings.
HTAC also provides emergency relief when natural disasters such as earthquakes and extreme flooding occur. Delivering such critical items (from heaters, cooking stoves, and blankets), we meet these disasters with the most efficient and effective response possible, providing relief to thousands of affected people each year.

Continuing our proud tradition that began in 1993, Help the Afghan Children delivered critical humanitarian aid in the form of medicines, medical equipment, and medical supplies to hospitals and health clinics in four provinces that directly benefited 42,500 Afghans; many of them children this past year.
Working with our international shipping partner, AmeriCares, and our in-country partner, Afghan Health and Development Services (AHDS), HTAC was able to target and distribute this aid to hospitals and clinics in Kabul, Laghman, Ghazni, and Urozgan Provinces – some of which operate in vastly underserved areas of the country. Delivering this aid is making a difference in helping physicians and other Afghan health professionals better treat their patients, and in many cases, save lives.
